The Fair Oaks Fiesta began in 1949 and attracted over 40,000 visitors over its three-day run. It has created strong and lasting memories for many in the community through the years. FOVEC believes the Fair Oaks Fiesta is an integral part of what makes Fair Oaks, specifically Fair Oaks Village special, and we need to bring it back. More specifically, we believe it should take place in the Village next May and be run as a community event that attracts visitors, not as a money-making event. The event pre-dates the Chamber, but for many years the Chamber has taken the lead in hosting the event. Changes to the name, content, and format have been controversial, and over the last three years, the event hasn't occurred at all. We have been working with the Chamber to bring this event back in a form closer to its original format. What do you think? Please share your favorite memories or photos from past Fair Oaks Fiestas and thoughts about returning this event to Fair Oaks Village.

No matter how bad inflation gets, free times anything is still zero, and who doesn't like that! This Wednesday, we have two inflation beaters for you: At 8:30 in the morning, we have free (but valuable) information via our Live Update, where you can learn the latest news about the Park Renovation, Events, and other news about Fair Oaks Village. At 6:00 PM, we bring you Vibes in the Village with live music by local artist DD James at the Deli...where you can get a free popsicle and other free stuff. These are brought to you by the Fair Oaks Village Enhancement Committee (FOVEC) through your donations and our generous sponsors!

Recently we have gotten several questions about what's happening at the park in the Village. The short answer is the renovations approved by Measure J in November 2018 are finally underway! The much more complete answer can be found on the Park District website at https://www.forpd.org/352/Measure-J Don't have the time to read hundreds of pages of documentation? Join us for our next Village Live Update and get your questions answered live! https://www.oldfairoaksvillage.com/event-details/fair-oaks-village-live-update-2022-07-27-08-30

We at the History Center would like to bring back our temporary theme displays. The first display we would like to make will honor the Women’s Thursday Club (WTC). The plan is to have something that both the WTC and the Fair Oaks Historical Society (FOHS) can be proud of. The display for the WTC will cover each decade of its existence highlighting one of the members for each decade. This may be done by a photo, video, or audio story. To pull this together, we are looking for members that would enjoy creating the display. This may require interviewing people, putting together a media presentation, and building the physical display. We are also looking for a member to be the liaison to the Women’s Thursday Club. If you are interested in this project, please email Chris Highsmith at chighsmith1@sbcglobal.net. Thank you!

FOVEC would like to thank everyone who made the time to respond to our O Cafe Parklet Survey. The results are in, and you agreed the parklet should go by a factor of more than 3 to 1. https://www.oldfairoaksvillage.com/home/news-updates/o-cafe-parklet-survey-results We now need your help sharing your option with the Department of Transportation and the County. Please get in touch with Supervisor Rich Desmond at (916) 874-5471 or richdesmond@saccounty.gov Please also call SacDOT at 916-874-6291 or write to them at Director's Office Design, Programs, PMO, Planning & Development Services, Alternative Modes, Administration Division Department of Transportation 4111 Branch Center Road Sacramento, CA 95827 We encourage you to use your own words when calling or writing, but we have included our concerns below as suggested topics. Parking has long been the Village's most significant issue. This expansion reduces public parking just before the problem worsens due to the park renovation in the Village starting this month. The use of the public property for private business use sets a bad precedent that would be disastrous if other local businesses were to copy The patio design is unattractive and negatively impacts how the Village is perceived. With the end of pandemic restrictions, there is no longer any need for this outdoor dining space.
Please let Supervisor Desmond know how you feel content media

The Fair Oaks Foundation for Leisure and Arts has been serving you ice cream at Concerts in the Park and funding local culture for many years. With the Village Park renovations, we can't do you ice cream for a while longer, but we will be selling water at Fair Oaks Park's concerts, and we could use a few more volunteers to help! We are also looking for potential new Board members as we prepare for expanded music and art opportunities in 2023 when the park reopens. If you would like to help, RSVP to janetmcwilliam@comcast.net no later than May 18th.

If you have been to the Village recently, you probably noticed O'Cafe has expanded their outside dining into the on-street parking. This new pandemic-inspired patio would have been fantastic a year ago, but given the Village's parking issues, is this new patio the best use of that space now? What do you think?

The Fair Oaks Recreation and Parks District plans to shift its programming approach for Arts and Entertainment from being a facility provider and landlord to one where the District is an active programmer of arts and cultural programs in the community. FORPD believes additional staff members will be needed to operate the renovated facilities and programs. If approved, responsibility will shift from the volunteer groups who have traditionally provided arts and cultural programs in Fair Oaks to the Park District. What do you think? The Parks Board will be voting to approve this new position this Wednesday! More details are available in the attached Staff Report.

The Fair Oaks Cemetery has lots of it! If you could use some dirt, just contact Guillermo, cemetery manager (gbarron.focd@gmail.com). Also, the cemetery is going to hold their annual Memorial Day Ceremony on Saturday, 5.28.22. As you may know, it features a terrific collection of American flags, large and small, placed throughout the cemetery grounds. The flags will be put in place on Thursday, the 26th, from 9:00am to 11:00am, with a BBQ lunch served to all volunteers. Please spread the word that volunteers are needed to help with the flags! It’s a joyful experience to help with the preparation for this event!
